The fashion industry is mourning the loss of L'Wren Scott today — and not just because of her talent. A few hours after news broke that the model/designer had been found hanging in her apartment in New York City on Monday, March 17, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour took to her magazine's website to pay tribute to the late style maven.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of L'Wren Scott," Wintour wrote. "L'Wren was a total perfectionist, someone who absolutely embodied everything her marvelous clothes stood for: strength of character combined with a confident and powerful style."
The statement continued: "In person, L'Wren was always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind, and so much fun. Her old world American manners and charm were from another time, but her sensibility was always fiercely modern. We will all miss her."
As previously reported, Scott was found dead of an apparent suicide on Monday morning. She was 47 years old. A favorite of stars including Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Nicole Kidman, she launched her first collection in 2006 and also collaborated with Banana Republic on an exclusive holiday line.
Since 2001, Scott had been linked with Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger, who was in Australia with his band at the time of her death. "Mick is terribly devastated," a source told Us Weekly of the musician. "He is inconsolable."
