Two years after Adele won an Oscar for the theme song to Skyfall, another British belter has tackled soundtracking a James Bond film. Sam Smith released his new song “Writing’s On the Wall” for the upcoming film Spectre on Friday, Sept. 25.
“I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time,” the four-time Grammy winner, 23, tweeted after sharing the tune with fans on Spotify.
And the song has already gotten high praise, in fact, some of the highest praise possible for a James Bond fan.
Sir Roger Moore, who famously played Bond in seven films from 1973 to 1985, tweeted, “@samsmithworld has delivered a very haunting and wonderfully orchestrated #spectre theme song. Well done!”
Smith was understandably thrilled, replying, “Roger Moore just said he loves the song. Unbelievable x Thank you so much @sirrogermoore.”
In addition to Adele and Smith, other singers who have crooned theme songs for the iconic series include Jack White, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Tina Turner, Sheena Easton, and Shirley Bassey, to name just a few.
Spectre — starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007, in the 24th film in the franchise — hits theaters on Nov. 6.
