Seth Meyers will host the 2014 Emmys.

The honoree becomes the host! Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live alum Seth Meyers has signed on to host the 66th annual Emmy Awards on NBC on Aug. 25.

It's been a big year for Meyers, 40, who took over Late Night in February after Jimmy Fallon moved to The Tonight Show. Known for his "Weekend Update" bit, he appeared in his last episode of SNL on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The announcement of Meyer's hosting gig was made on Thursday, April 25 by the Television Academy. The funnyman, who won his Emmy in 2011 for his work on SNL, follows former How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the awards show in 2013.

"Seth is such a talented performer and writer, and we know he will bring something unique to hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards," Chairman and CEO of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum said in a release.

"Seth's expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys," President, Late Night and Alternative Programming, NBC Entertainment Paul Telegdy added.

Held at Los Angeles' Nokia Theater, the Emmys will be hosted by Meyers for the first time. Other past hosts include Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Seacrest, and Jimmy Kimmel
