With her eye on the prize, Christina Aguilera has been back with a vengeance this season on The Voice. The pop icon seems poised to be the first female coach to take home the top prize, and is willing to try any tactic to bring her two remaining artists, 16-year-old Jacquie Lee and 20-year-old Matthew Schuler, to the finals.
In the Nov. 18 live show, viewers got a look into Aguilera’s unusual training methods when she introduced her singers to her yoga instructor Christa.
“Today I brought in my yoga instructor, she’s helped me so much as a vocalist,” she revealed. “For Jacquie, part of the coaching is helping her get more centered in her body.”
With her specific goals in mind, the frequently glammed up Grammy winner donned casual yoga attire and did the stretches with her artists.
“Ooh, is that your back?” the slimmed-down star exclaimed after hearing a crack from Lee. “That’s great! That’s some stagnant energy in there.”
“Being here with Christina Aguilera doing a yoga lesson is amazing,” Lee gushed to the cameras. “Yoga gives me a better understanding of where my breath is coming from for a performance.”
Schuler appreciated the opportunity to step back and focus on himself amidst the stress of the competition.
“It was so cool that Christina took time to teach me some of the things she’s learned as a performer,” he said. “All the craziness of this show, it’s so fast-paced. It’s important to really center myself and focus on this song that’s a little more tender hearted.”
Schuler and Lee are currently in the Top 10 of the NBC hit, and after tonight’s elimination episode, fans will see if Xtina’s zen tactics were affective.
