Lena Dunham Deletes, Apologizes For Molestation Tweet: “Even Naked Girls Get Embarrassed”

Lena Dunham apologized after tweeting a joke about getting molested. The Girls star quickly deleted the comment.

She's known for showing off some skin, but it was Lena Dunham's social media jokes that got her in trouble on Sunday, March 9. Fresh off her Saturday Night Live hosting gig from the night before, the Girls creator and star got defensive when it came to some of her raunchy skits.

After appearing nude in a sketch about about Biblical figures Adam and Eve, a fan tweeted, "you don't always have to get naked!" Dunham, 27, quickly replied, "Please tell that to my uncle, mister. He's been making me!" 

Following some negative reactions to the joke, the New York City native took down the tweet and sent out a series of apologies.

"I just made and deleted a not so great molestation joke. Sorry guys. I am really sleepy," she tweeted

The self-proclaimed feminist admitted that Saturday Night Live's audience was very different than the one she's used to with her HBO show.

"SNL has a way bigger audience than our usual cozy girls audience, so I was seeing a rash of very different kinds of twitter rage," she continued. "But I should know better, and do. Even naked girls get embarrassed. Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend."
