Parenthood fans, get your tissues ready. The NBC series is in jeopardy of getting canceled amid a rift between the network and the cast, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Many of its cast regulars, which includes Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen, and Dax Shepard, are being asked to take a pay cut, THR reports. If the beloved series were to return, NBC would only order at most 13 episodes for a final season.
Fans of the drama have anxiously been awaiting (and hoping!) for a Braverman victory, including the actors themselves. On Friday, actress Mae Whitman posted a cryptic tweet during the social media frenzy. "Yeah, well, I'm just…getting my thing together," she wrote.
Whitman's costar, Sam Jaeger, commented about the series on May 6. "While waiting to hear word on the fate of @nbcparenthood, I found this pic. Don't make Awesome T. Nelson wait," he captioned, along with a photo of costar Craig T. Nelson on set.
This isn't the first time the cast had battled with NBC. Back in March 2013, Nelson slammed the network for its mistreatment. "There are all these people responding to our show and NBC is completely out of it," the veteran actor told Entertainment Tonight. "They don't promo the show, you don't see anything about it out there. It's like this hidden gem, but why are they ashamed of it?"
"We should be doing more episodes. Full seasons," he added. "I don't understand whatever the agenda is behind the scenes. It's very confusing. Having been around as long as I have and been on a couple of shows—one of which I ran—it doesn't make sense to me."
