It looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! Like her parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — professional actors both — Suri Cruise has a flair for the dramatic. Case in point? Holmes, 35, took her daughter, 7, to Madison Square Garden in NYC on March 30 to watch the East Regional Final of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament between the Connecticut Huskies and Michigan State Spartans. Sitting in the stands, both Holmes and her little one seemed completely whipped up in March Madness.
Looking more grown-up and more like her mother than ever, Suri wore a pale-pink t-shirt, with her chestnut locks in a ponytail. During what appeared to be a particularly intense moment in the game, both she and Holmes put their left hands over their mouths in a near-identical gesture In a second shot, the Giver actress (wearing a pale-pink ripped denim vest and distressed black t-shirt) and her only child both smiled excitedly looking up at a scoreboard and jumbo monitor. (Suri also appeared to have brought along a doll for the big game.)
The famous NYC-based mother-daughter duo were mentioned by the TV announcer and shown onscreen during the game’s broadcast on Sunday.
The rest of the year looks to be a busy one for Holmes, who divorced Cruise, 51, back in summer 2012. After she dissolved her five-year-old Holmes & Yang fashion line partnership with Jeanne Yang earlier this month, it was announced that the Dawson’s Creek alum would be returning to the small screen in Dangerous Liasons, a new “high society drama” for ABC from Behind the Candelabra writer Richard LaGravenese. The Ohio native is set to play Ann, “a well-bred and educated woman who runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband.”
“Katie is the sweetest woman to everyone on set right now,” a source told Us Weekly recently. “She’s very casual and down to earth — she’s very excited about the show!”
The same day as the mother-daughter b-ball outing, Cruise was across the pond in London, where accepted the “Legend of Our Lifetime” Award at the Jameson Empire Awards — making his first red carpet appearance in months.
