This season, take a cue from Blake Lively, Emma Stone and Eva Longoria, and switch up your hot-weather hairstyle with a more chic option. Braided ponytails offer the same convenience of the updos but with a polished edge. And since the key to the trend is a worn-in look, it's perfect for day to night.

To get Lively's high-pony braid she wore at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, first make a sleek ponytail positioned between the crown and back of your head. Fasten it tightly and wrap a small section around the elastic and secure with a bobby pin. Braid the hair and secure the bottom with another band. To create a bed-head look, loosen the top of the braid by lightly tugging on the outer sections. Finish with shine spray.

For the side-swept fishtail braid worn by Stone at the Met Gala on May 5 and by Longoria at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, first create a severe side part. Add texture with a wide-barrel curling iron, making sure to curl from the top. Lightly tease hair at the crown, then split your hair into two sections.

Keeping your hair on the side of the part, begin to fishtail-braid by pulling a bit of hair from the outside of one section over to the center of the other section. "For Eva's look, do so with very small pieces," Vaccaro tells Us. "For Emma's, use larger sections of hair."

Once you've reached the bottom, fasten the braid with an elastic. Loosen the braid by lightly tugging on outer sections throughout.
