Michael Jackson
On the fifth anniversary of Michael Jackson's death, his children and sister La Toya honored him.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been five years since the tragic death of Michael Jackson. The King of Pop died at age 50 in his home on June 25, 2009.

Naturally, celebrities and fans took to social media to honor the music legend, starting the trending hashtag “#RIPMichaelJackson” on Twitter. This date is even more meaningful to the Jackson family, who are remembering their son, brother, and father on this anniversary.

"5 Years ago today we all lost the most INCREDIBLE father, brother, son and the most talented performer this world has ever known!” Michael’s older sister La Toya Jackson said in a statement. “If Michael were here today he would tell us all to celebrate his life and not to mourn his death. Michael was all about love and peace and in honor of my brother I ask you to please do something kind for someone today, and, BLAST and DANCE to all the beautiful music he left us all. I will spend this day celebrating his life by listening to his music, looking through old home photos, watching his videos and concerts. MICHAEL I LOVE YOU FOREVER and if you were here today I know you would say, ‘I LOVE YOU MORE!’”

A source tells Us Weekly that Michael’s children — Paris, Prince, and Blanket Jackson — are treating the day as they would any other.

“They honor and miss their dad every day and constantly listen to his music,” the source tells Us. “Today is like any other day. They really do think about him every day.”

Michael’s daughter Paris, 16, who survived a suicide attempt in June of last year, is doing “much better” at school in Utah, and her brother Prince, 17, is a straight A-student.

“He’s a dedicated student,” the source tells Us. “His dad really instilled in him a love of learning. He refuses to miss school and wants to learn as much as he can. He still wants to go into the film business, but plans to intern a lot to see exactly what he wants to do.”
