Deryck Whibley healthier after being hospitalized for alcoholism
Deryck Whibley shared an update with fans about his health on May 24, a week after revealing that he'd been hospitalized in intensive care for drinking too much

Deryck Whibley is taking those "get well" wishes to heart. The Sum 41 rocker, 34, who was hospitalized recently because of "hard boozing," shared an update with fans about his health this weekend, via a post on his official blog on Saturday, May 24.

"I just wanted to thank you all so much for sending gifts and all of the compassion and support you have shown me," the musician wrote. "It really means a lot to me in this time of recovery. I will be better soon and back out on stage before you know it."

The post included a photo of Avril Lavigne's ex-husband looking thin but in seemingly better shape than he was when he first revealed his condition earlier this month. "I was stuck with needles and I.V.s all over. I was completely sedated the FIRST WEEK," he explained to fans on May 16, blaming the problem on too many years of hard drinking.

"My liver and kidneys collapsed on me," he added. "Needless to say it scared me straight. I finally realized I can't drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die."

He noted, however, that he had rediscovered his "passion and inspiration for writing music" and planned to refocus on his career once he was on his feet again. "Soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again," he wrote at the time. "See you all sometime."
