Could Lorde (aka Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor) and her younger sister India Yelich-O’Connor be creating a new breed of “Royals”? The 15-year-old blonde New Zealander caused a stir on Jan. 19, when she followed in her famed sister’s footsteps and posted her very first cover, “Say Something” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera.
The tune, which hit no. 1 on iTunes after Aguilera, 33, performed with the alternative duo on The Voice, is soft and melodic, which fits perfectly with the young singer’s angelic voice.
India’s rendition is definitely a rough cut, with occasional flaws in harmony and general recording, but her talent shines through, as does the family resemblance.
Lorde has not spoken out about her sister’s first cover on social media, but it’s already getting plenty of Twitter support from excited fans.
Though she was surprisingly snubbed from the Best New Artist category, Lorde is nominated for four Grammy awards at the Sunday, Jan. 28 show — Song of the Year for “Royals,” Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
