Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt Never “Want Our Children to Be Actors,” But Daughter Vivienne “Did Well” in Maleficent

When it comes to show business, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are not keen on keeping it in the family.

"Neither one of us want our children to be actors, Brad and I," she told the Daily Mail of her six kids. Jolie is the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, but has long distanced herself from her father and his career. The two have had a rocky relationship, publicly denouncing one another, before reconciling following the 2007 death of Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand.

However, when it came time to cast a youngster to play little Aurora in Jolie's new film Maleficent, the Oscar winner, 38, didn't have much of a choice, with daughter Vivienne, 5, nabbing the role.

"I really couldn't ask another 4 and 5 year old to do it because kids would get scared," she said of her villain's spooky, horned costume. "I only put her in the film because the other children her age would be scared of me because I looked quite scary in [costume]. In the scene, little Aurora has to really want to be near me and be loving to me, and I had to be quite mean. So Vivienne and I practiced it a few times, and I was shocked by how well she did."

Jolie, who said she watches "every crazy animated thing with my kids," was thrilled to be a part of a film she could share with her children.

"I didn't realize how many films I made that my kids can't see until I did this," she said of the Disney project. With more than four decades in film, Jolie has starred in many violent and highly sexual films like 1999's Girl, Interrupted and 2005's Mr. & Mrs. Smith with longtime partner Pitt.

"It's been so much fun to have something like this coming out where the kids are so excited and can come see it," she continued. "They love being on set, and they played in the fairy mound and they loved meeting Elle [Fanning] and Prince Charming. It was sharing this playtime, which is what I do for a living, but when it comes to this level and this world, you can really share it with your kids, which is the greatest."

Maleficent hits theaters on May 30.
