Casey Kasem has been hospitalized in critical condition, but is said to be alert and comfortable. A spokesman for St. Anthony Hospital in western Washington confirmed the news to CNN in a statement released Thursday, June 5.
"Mr. Kasem is alert and appears to be comfortable at this time," the spokesperson said, noting that the renowned radio host, 82, is receiving antibiotics, blood pressure medicine, and care for his bed sores. "Any further updates on Mr. Kasem's condition will be at the discretion and approval of his children."
Kasem was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, June 1, after his oldest daughter, Kerri Kasem, showed up at the house where he was staying with second wife Jean Kasem in Washington to have him evaluated by a physician. As previously reported, Kerri arrived with an ambulance, prompting an outburst from stepmother Jean, 59, who flung raw hamburger meat at her husband's daughter. (Kerri's mother is Kasem's first wife, Linda Myers.)
"In the name of King David, I threw a piece of raw meat into the street in exchange for my husband to the wild rabid dogs," Jean later told NBC News by way of explanation.
The radio icon has been in the middle of a family feud between Jean and his three grown children for months now. Kasem has Lewy body disease and has been bedridden for some time; his kids claimed last year that they were being kept from their ailing father by Jean.
