Oprah Winfrey’s Original Audition Tape for Show Resurfaces Decades Later

You get an Oprah throwback and you get an Oprah throwback and you get an Oprah throwback! 

More then 30 years after Oprah Winfrey filmed her original audition tape for her famous talk show, the 1983 clip has resurfaced.

Winfrey, now 60, first shared the retro video with the audience on her Oprah show in November 2005. This week, the Oprah Winfrey Network made the video available on the network’s official YouTube channel.

The vintage clip opens with Oprah introducing the footage in 2005. “I heard that there was a morning show in Chicago that needed a new host,” she said. “I stayed up all night long with an editor [and] sent my audition tape in… I was obsessed with getting this job.”

In the old-school audition, a younger Winfrey sports a short afro and wears a pale pink top with oversized stud earrings. She also rocked heavy black eyeliner and a berry lip.

“Hi there,” she begins her audition tape. “My name is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah spelled O-P-R-A-H.”
