Having a hard time reading Juan Pablo Galavis‘ true feelings? John Mayer may have the answers. The 36-year-old singer — who has a notorious romantic history with women like Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson — shared his thoughts on the controversial Bachelor star following the March 10 finale episode and live after show.

“Thinking about Juan Pablo led me back to this book on my shelf called Unmasking The Face. (I like super dense esoterica),” Bachelor fan Mayer, 36, explained on Instagram Wednesday, March 12. “The book refers to itself as a “guide to recognizing emotions and facial expressions.” Turns out Juan Pablo was showing figure 28, contempt with some disgust, with a sadness brow featured in figure 60 (not pictured.)”

The “Who You Love” singer, who recently split with girlfriend Perry, included a snapshot of a page from the book that illustrated the “contempt with some disgust” face.

Galavis, a 32-year-old single dad, has faced criticism from Bachelor fans after he gave winner Nikki Ferrell the final rose, but didn’t propose and refused to say “I love you.”

Even host Chris Harrison became frustrated with Galavis’ lack of emotions during the After the Final Rose special Monday night.

“Most of you understood last night it wasn’t about getting Juan Pablo to say he loved Nikki. It was about getting him to really say anything of substance about a woman who had professed her love for him and had hoped for a proposal from him,” Harrison explained in an Entertainment Weekly blog post. “I knew our audience wasn’t going to take his behavior well, but I thought if we could at least show that in the end he’s happy and in love and I could get him to show some real emotion or feelings, it might help.”
