Dancing his way into our hearts! While promoting the highly-anticipated film adaptation of John Green‘s best-selling novel The Fault in Our Stars, relative newcomer Ansel Elgort showed off some of his hidden talents. The New York native and LaGuardia High School (yes, the Fame school) graduate, 20, appeared on The Tonight Show on June 2 and took time out of his interview to showcase his tap dancing skills.
“I started in ballet—I wasn’t very good, to be honest,” he told host Jimmy Fallon. “Then I got more into tap dance. The thing about the tap dancing is I always got stuck, because I got so obsessed with tap dancing…”
He didn’t finish his thought, and instead broke into rapid tapping as the audience cheered. SNL alum Fallon tried his hand (or feet, rather) at tapping as well, but the result was more comical than impressive.
Elgort also talked about his favorite tradition of taking selfies next to posters of his movies in the subway.
“I’ll do that forever,” the Divergent star declared. “I recall all the times I took the subway to school every day for years. I remember seeing movie posters on the subway and being like, ‘I hope one day a movie I’m in is going to be advertised [in the subway].’ And now it is.”
