Glee Director Says 100th Episode Will Address Cory Monteith’s Death “In a Significant Way”

Lea Michele and Cory Monteith
Glee's 100th episode will deal with the loss of actor Cory Monteith in a "significant way," says director Paris Barclay.

As the original Glee cast members reunite for the Fox hit's 100th episode, one core actor is clearly missing. The show's star Cory Monteith passed away in July 2013 after overdosing on a deadly combination of heroin and alcohol.

And though Glee dealt with the painful loss of the actor, who played former quarterback Finn Hudson, in the October 2013 tribute episode, "The Quarterback," Monteith's passing has since been kept fairly quiet on the show's storylines.

But that's all about to change according to the director of the 100th episode, Paris Barclay, who spoke exclusively to Us Weekly at the 66th Annual Directors Guild Awards on Jan. 25.

"I don’t think it could go much farther without continuing to talk about how that hurts," Barclay admitted. "There is so much feeling there and it affected the Glee family in such a profound way, and you can expect it to be dealt with in the 100th episode. It definitely comes back and is dealt with in a significant way."

Monteith's loss has been especially painful for girlfriend and costar Lea Michele, who has remained on the musical comedy after her boyfriend's untimely death.

But Michele will be joined by the majority of the original cast including Amber Riley, Dianna Agron, and Heather Morris. Also featured in the special two-part episode are fan favorite guest stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristin Chenoweth

"The two of them together are hysterical," Barclay said of Paltrow and Chenoweth. "They have a lot of scenes together, and I think they will be clamoring for a spin off after this! The have great chemistry, and they are incredibly funny."

The two-part 100th episode of Glee will air in April on Fox.
