Kesha opens up in the August 2014 issue of Teen Vogue about her "miserable" life before entering rehab for an eating disorder.

She won’t put her $ on pretty. Kesha, back and better than ever, covers the August 2014 issue of Teen Vogue. The “Timber” hitmaker, 27, looks like a natural beauty in the pictures, with her blonde tresses chopped in a chic and shaggy cut, and her freckles on full display.

The star’s latest transformation comes nearly three months after she left rehab, where she was treated for an eating disorder. Kesha opened up about what life was like before finally seeking help in January.

“Making my last record, Warrior, was a pretty miserable process, and it wore my spirit down,” Kesha confessed. “I was fighting like hell to keep my whole irreverent essence and everything raw and visceral that I stand for in it, but in the end I was promoting something that wasn’t the animal I wanted it to be. I decided to face my problem head-on.”

Indeed, the singer emerged from rehab with a significantly healthier and happier perspective. “I remember thinking, I don’t want to be pretty,” Kesha recalled. “Don’t call me pretty.” The singer shared how even before rehab, she would do things to refute the prettiness claims. “It was almost offensive,” she shared, “I would put on more eyeliner or draw things down my face.”

The star, who changed her Twitter handle from Ke$hasux to Kesharose after completing her stint, said the “defining moment [developed] about six months ago” after a breakup. “I decided that maybe I do want to try to be pretty,” she said. “I want to just try.”

These days, Kesha, in her new life, has found love. The Rising Star expert told Ryan Seacrest last Friday, June 20, about her current boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter. “He’s really, a really sweet human being,” she gushed of her beau. “I’m very happy to have him in my life.”

A source told Us Weekly that the couple—nicknamed “Bradsha”—”actually been together a long time.” Added the insider: [He] “did visit her during treatment—he’s been alongside her through it all.”
