Jupiter will not be ascending this year after all. Weeks before it was scheduled to hit theaters, Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum's new movie Jupiter Ascending has been abruptly pushed back from its July 18 release date to 2015.
Directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix), Jupiter Ascending is now set to make its theatrical debut on Feb. 6. Though there has been little explanation for the change, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the film, which already has a rumored budget of $150 million, needed more time for special effects improvements.
Deadline Hollywood reports similar reasoning, saying the forthcoming movie needs to complete its visual effects.
"With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time," Warner Bros.' domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman told Variety. "A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time."
The new schedule for Jupiter Ascending means that Liam Neeson's Run All Night has been bumped by Warner Bros. from its original Feb. 6 release date and has yet to be reassigned.
Also starring Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, and Christina Cole, among others, Jupiter Ascending will now compete against Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges' Seventh Son and Johnny Depp's Mortdecai.
