Showalter's friend and They Came Together co-writer David Wain confirmed the news to Us at the film's premiere in Brooklyn, New York on June 23. "Michael would have loved to have been here but he's on the west coast with newborn twins," he said.

The writer/comedian, 43, and Ellis tied the knot in 2011. Showalter got his start writing video shorts for MTV's You Wrote It, You Watch It in the early '90s, which was hosted by Jon Stewart. He later briefly worked as a correspondent on The Daily Show in 1996, and was host of The Michael Showalter Showalter from 2007 to 2008.

Showalter, however, is best-known for writing and starring as Gerald "Coop" Cooperberg in the 2001 hit Wet Hot American Summer. The star-studded cast included then-unknowns like Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Bradley Cooper, and Janeane Garofalo. (He recently reunited with Poehler and Rudd for They Came Together, which hits theaters nationwide June 27.)

In August 2011, the Wet Hot American Summer cast celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York. According to Wain, the long-rumored prequel is officially happening.
