More like bad kitty! The Big Bang Theory might be one of the top rated comedies currently on TV, but the CBS sitcom about a group of science nerds and their lady loves is at the center of a big lawsuit.

Ellen Newlin Chase and Margaret Chase Perry have filed a lawsuit (obtained by the New York Times) against Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., CBS and other media companies, saying that their mother — a children’s book author named Edith Newlin — was the real author of the show’s hit song “Soft Kitty.”

The comical tune was introduced early in the series — which stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki — as the song that Sheldon Cooper’s mother sings to him when he’s sick. It is repeated often throughout the course of the series, which is currently in its tenth season.

But the plaintiffs claim that the original song was penned as a poem by their mother and published in the book Songs for the Nursery School in the 1930s.

The lyrics to “Soft Kitty” read: “Soft kitty, warm kitty / Little ball of fur / Happy kitty, sleepy kitty / Purr, purr, purr.”

Credit for the song on the series is given to Bill Prady, an executive producer on The Big Bang Theory. Warner Bros. would not comment to the NYT about the case.
