Paul McCartney Helps a 64-Year-Old Fan Propose Onstage at His Concert

Talk about an epic proposal. John Dann lived out his wildest dreams on Saturday, July 5, when legendary singer Paul McCartney called him up onstage to help him propose to his girlfriend, Claudia Rogers. McCartney, 72, was in the middle of a show in Albany, N.Y., when he spotted the couple in the audience with two neon yellow signs.

“He won’t marry me ’til he meets you,” Rogers’ sign read. Next to her was Dann, who held up a piece of paper saying, “I have the ring and I’m 64.”

Ever the romantic, Beatles heartthrob McCartney invited the Rochester, N.Y.-based lovebirds to join him in the spotlight at the Times Union Center, with a crowd of more than 13,000 people watching. Asked if he was really going to go through with the proposal, Dann joked, “Oh, yeah. I’ve come too far to back out now.”

Then, stepping up to the mic, he sang a verse of the Beatles classic “When I’m Sixty-Four,” which includes the lines, “Will you still need me, will you still feed me / When I’m sixty-four?” McCartney gamely strummed along on his guitar, bobbing his head in time with the beat.
