Wayne Rogers, who played Trapper John on the classic TV series M.A.S.H., died on Thursday, December 31, at the age of 82.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor passed away from complications of pneumonia.
Rogers — who starred as the iconic show’s beloved doctor — appeared on M.A.S.H. from 1972 to 1975. The series, based on Robert Altman’s 1970 film of the same name, ran from 1972 to 1983.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Rogers graduated from Princeton University with a degree in history and enlisted in the Navy before beginning his acting career.
Before starring on M.A.S.H., he appeared on shows such as The Fugitive and Gunsmoke, and after leaving M.A.S.H. in 1975, he subsequently starred in Cool Hand Luke, Murder, She Wrote and Ghosts of Mississippi.
After retiring from acting in the late ’80s, Rogers became a highly successful entrepreneurial investor. He also wrote a 2011 book, Make Your Own Rules, and appeared regularly on the Fox News business show Cashin’ In.
Rogers is survived by his wife of 27 years, Amy Hirsh.
