“I think he wrote this encyclical, which is one of the most important things in the climate-change history, so to speak,” the Oscar-nominated actor told reporters. “Basically, spreading the gospel that we should care about the planet we live in. It’s a sin to destroy our planet.… He’s been inspiring and revolutionary to come out and be outspoken about the issue of climate change and endorse the scientific community.”

“We shot [The Revenant] in Calgary, and weather conditions were unprecedented — fluctuations from hot to cold,” he said. “The locals had told us they had never had a weather experience like that since they’ve lived there, and we realized that 2015 was the hottest year in recorded history.… It’s absolutely, absolutely terrifying. DiCaprio earned an Oscar nomination for his turn as Hugh Glass in this year’s hit The Revenant, and took home his first-ever SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role on Saturday.
