Mitt Romney Reads Mean Tweets From Donald Trump Supporters on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Making mean tweets great again. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, March 8, to read hilariously heated messages aimed at him by ardent Donald Trump supporters.

After Romney, 68, publicly branded the current GOP front-runner Trump, 69, a “phony” and a “fraud,” the ex–Celebrity Apprentice host lashed out at the former governor of Massachusetts on social media. For this politically charged round of “Mean Tweets,” Romney read from his rival’s Twitter feed first.

“Mitt Romney had his chance and blew it. Lindsey Graham ran for president, got ZERO, and quit?” Trump’s post read. “Why are they now spokesmen against me? Sad!”

Romney was quick with a comeback. “Uh, got zero. Got zero …. The only people I know who got zero are the ones who paid 25 grand to be at Trump University,” he quipped on the late-night show, causing eruptive laughter from the audience. “They’re the ones who got zero, so … ”

The politician then went on to recite the cutting (albeit hysterical) words of Trump fans.

“@MittRomney = loser,” Romney began, before joking, “That’s true, actually, I lost. You may not have noticed.” (Romney lost the presidential race four years ago to current POTUS Barack Obama.)

“Who are you anyway? And by the way, where do you buy the shoe polish you wear in your hair?” he continued reading. Naturally, the No Apology author had a zinger for that jab too. “I buy it at Costco in bulk!” he wisecracked.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Romney shared his concern over the possibility of Trump becoming president during a March 3 appearance at the Hinckley Institute of Politics Forum in Utah.

“I believe with all my heart and soul that we face another time for choosing, one that will have profound consequences for the Republican Party and more importantly, for the country,” Romney said, via NBC. “[Trump’s] domestic policies would lead to recession. His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe. He has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president. And his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill.”

Trump later responded to Romney’s criticism during a rally in Portland, Maine, last Thursday. “I don’t know what happened to him,” he said. “You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, ‘Mitt, drop to your knees.’ He would have dropped to his knees.”

Romney caught wind of the comment and tweeted, “If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement.”
