Adele Recorded an Epic Voicemail for Ellen DeGeneres’ Phone: Listen

Well, hello! When Adele appeared on the Thursday, February 18, episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the talk show host couldn’t help but ask the British songstress for a small favor: to record a new voicemail for her cell phone.

“I thought it would be really cool if you would record my outgoing message for my phone,” DeGeneres, 58, explained to her Grammy winning guest, 27. Without any hesitation, Adele agreed to grant her wish.

A fully prepared DeGeneres had a script on hand for Adele to recite — a reworking of the lyrics to her massive hit “Hello.” On DeGeneres’ behalf, Adele read the message out loud.

“Hello it’s me, I was wondering if after all these years you’d leave a message at the beep. Hello, can you hear me? I’m in California dreaming about the message that you’ll leave,” she quoted, before belting out the last line: “Hello from Ellen!”

That’s when a bright idea hit DeGeneres. “Oh, I should have asked you to sing it!” she said.

While Adele worried that there might be “too many syllables” to make the voicemail work as a song, she still decided to give it a go — and did so flawlessly. Seriously impressed by the performance, DeGeneres joked: “You know how many people are going to be calling me now?”
