Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones Cast in Star Wars Episode VII!

Add one Oscar-winning newcomer plus a Game of Thrones lady-knight to the already impressive slew of faces starring in Star Wars: Episode VII! Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have both joined the cast of the recently announced, hugely anticipated sequel, it was announced Monday, June 2 on the official Star Wars site. 31-year-old Nyong'o, of course, stormed the 2013-2014 awards season with her debut film role in 12 Years a Slave, ultimately winning her the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award. British actress Christie, meanwhile, swashbuckles her stuff on Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth, and will next costar alongside Jennifer Lawrence et al in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

"I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."

Although their roles have yet to be revealed, the two women join already-announced Star Wars newbies John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow in the J.J. Abrams-directed flick.

As previously announced, original Star Wars actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker will all be returning.
