Demi Lovato Talks Selena Gomez Falling Out on Watch What Happens Live, Says “People Grow Apart”

Nowhere to hide! Demi Lovato finally (and briefly) discussed why she unfollowed her former BFF Selena Gomez on Twitter during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, Aug. 14. A guest alongside Jessica Alba, the “Really Don’t Care” singer made the admission while playing Plead the Fifth with host Andy Cohen.

“I plead the sixth if that’s in the game,” the 21-year-old said when asked about Gomez, having previously plead the fifth on the most scandalous thing a Disney star has ever done. “I think its just one of those things where people change and people grow apart.”

Speculation about the stars’ formerly close relationship began when Lovato mysteriously unfollowed Gomez, 22, on Twitter back in July. At the time, she also allegedly tweeted and deleted: “Swimming away from the bulls–t bye b—h.”

The incident threw fans for a loop. After all, six months earlier it appeared that Lovato supported Gomez hours after her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber was arrested for a DUI and drag racing in Miami, Fla., on Jan. 23. (The two were spotted having dinner together in West Hollywood at the time.)

“We’re really, really close,” Lovato explained of the outing to On Air With Ryan Seacrest the following day. “And any advice I had for her, we talked last night and it’s between us. But I love her so much.”

Lovato and Gomez had been friends for over a decade before apparently cutting ties. They first met as kids while starring on the TV series Barney & Friends in 2002.
