A source tells Us Weekly "everyone is happy" that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made it official and had the wedding they wanted

Leave it to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to pull off the impossible in Hollywood — a secret wedding! The high-profile couple somehow managed to get married in the most low-profile way, at an intimate ceremony in France with just their close friends and family, who couldn't be more thrilled for the pair.

"This was a total surprise, but something they were obviously planning on doing when the time was right," a source tells Us Weekly of the exciting news. "Everyone is happy for them. It was small and family and friends only, just like they wanted. I'm happy they pulled it off. We all consider them married anyway, but now it's official."

As previously reported, Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, said "I do" at Chateau Miraval, their estate in France. Sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, walked their mom down the aisle, while daughter Shiloh, 8, and son Knox, 6, acted as ring bearers, a spokesman for the couple told the AP. Daughters Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, also took part in the wedding, by throwing flower petals, the spokesman said.

Engaged since the spring of 2012, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith costars have hinted for years at their plans to tie the knot. As recently as May, Jolie said they didn't have a date. "We talk to the kids about it once in a while — and one of them suggested paintball," she joked during an interview on Good Morning America. "And we thought, 'Well, different.'"

She went on to say that whatever they ended up doing, their kids would play a major part. "You know, I think the important thing is that whatever we do…the kids do have a great time, and we all take seriously the love, and the connection between all of us," she explained. "But also just get silly and do something memorable."
