Jessa Duggar's boyfriend posts anti-Catholicism rant on Facebook

Jessa, 21, and her famous family who star on the TLC reality show are known for their strong Christian values—what they call "Independent Baptists"—yet have managed to stay out of the press when it comes to opposing views, until now, that is.

It all started when Seewald, 19, wrote a Facebook post which criticized Catholics for their "deadly errors."

"I have nothing against individuals who are Catholic," Seewald, who is also an "Independent Baptist," began. "I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God’s favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men,” he wrote, in reference to Ephesians 2:8-9. Seewald went on to list other beliefs he has a "problem with" and then concluded, "My conscience is captive to the word of God. Where my Catholic friends adhere to God's Word, I adhere. Where they depart from Scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors."

This message did not sit well with his Catholic followers. Before deleting the post, one commenter retorted: "I hope you will retract your statement about Catholics." While another said, "Ben is the worst. He is just the worst. This kind of 'Christian love' is one of the most sickening sentiments on the planet. It’s demeaning, it’s condescending, it’s self-aggrandizing and it turns my stomach. Not to mention he got literally everything about Catholicism wrong."

The Duggar family has yet to comment on the incident.

Jessa Duggar and Seewald began their "courtship" in 2013. "Courtship is a new season of life. It’s exciting,” she told Good Morning America in March of the relationship status where they're allowed to side-hug but not kiss. “We call it dating with a purpose and not just frivolous, really considering the person as a potential life partner."
