The men of Pink Floyd are taking it back, releasing their first studio album in more than 20 years, a source confirms to Us Weekly. News broke this past weekend that the famed rock band has plans to debut a new album, their first since 1994's The Division Bell.
Writer Polly Samson, who is married to Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, announced the new album on Twitter without warning.
"Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called The Endless River," she tweeted ever so casually. "Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful."
The journalist and songwriter was a part of the 1994 sessions, as she is credited on multiple tracks on Pink Floyd's last album The Division Bell, which hit stores in March of that year.
Pink Floyd keyboardist Wright passed away in 2008 at the age of 65, leaving unreleased material recorded with the band for future use. In addition to Wright, another member of the influential rock band, Syd Barrett, died as well.
Barrett passed away in 2006 at the age of 60, however, he departed the band in the late 1960s, so his music is unlikely to be featured on the next project. It is expected to include the recordings of Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, and famed bassist Roger Waters.
Mason spoke positively about a reunion in September 2013, telling NME, "I would do it."
"I'm ready to go," he continued enthusiastically. "I'm packed, I have my drum kit, a suitcase and a wash bag by my front door ready for it when I ever get the call."
First formed in 1965, Pink Floyd has released 14 studio albums, won a Grammy award, and produced celebrated singles, including hits such as "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Wish You Were Here." Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, Pink Floyd is recognized as one of the most influential rock bands of all time.
