It was a 48-hour champagne diet for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, with unprecedented back-to-back mega awards shows on Sunday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 25.

In a busy weekend for Hollywood, television favorites hit the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for the 2014 Emmy Awards on Monday, Aug. 25, just 24 hours after the MTV VMAs went down in nearby Inglewood, Calif. The celebs stunned on the red carpet, offered touching acceptance speeches, and celebrated all night long into the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Us Weekly has tons of Emmys 2014 details, from pre-party primping, red carpet and show moments you didn’t see — and, of course, gems from inside all of those afterparties. Check out our extended timeline below!

MONDAY, AUGUST 25

1:35 p.m. PST Project Primp! Project Runway judges Zac Posen and Heidi Klum got some last-minute touch-ups in a hotel room with the help of a beauty team before they walked the red carpet, making sure every hair was in place and every detail was perfect.

2:14 p.m. And they’re off! Veep‘s Anna Chlumsky was the first celeb to arrive outside of the Nokia Theatre in L.A., carrying the train of her chic white Zac Posen dress as she christened the red carpet. Chlumsky was followed by The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch, who arrived behind her in a midnight blue strapless Pamella Roland dress.

2:40 p.m. So mysterious! Orange Is the New Black‘s Natasha Lyonne walked swiftly by during the pre-show, adding alluringly, “I have to see a guy about a situation.”

3:29 p.m. Helping hand! Lena Dunham had a strong support system on the red carpet. The Girls creator was continually primped by her stylist, and when she had trouble walking in her voluminous Giambattista Valli gown, her rocker boyfriend Jack Antonoff wrapped his arm around her sweetly to assist.

3:48 p.m. Shoeless Sarah! A publicist bent down and reached under Sarah Hyland’s dress and pulled off her heels on the carpet. The Modern Family starlet let out a sigh of relief, and exclaimed, “I’m so hot. I have to go. I have to sit down.”

4:11 p.m. Sneaky! Jon Hamm cut the entire concession line at the pre-show festivities with his longtime love Jennifer Westfeldt. Karma came quickly, however, as he was swarmed for photos once he cut the line.

4:13 p.m. Texts are the new black. OITNB cronies Alysia Reiner and Laura Prepon were glued to their phones while waiting in the concession line. As Prepon appeared to be uploading photos to Facebook, Reiner texted away.

4:15 p.m. A bit of bubbly! Top Chef hottie Padma Lakshmi celebrated with champagne before the show, but made sure to sip it with a straw so her lipstick wouldn’t smear.

4:30 p.m. Avoid the pot brownies! Jimmy Fallon offered up some last-minute advice for his pal Seth Meyers, who was hosting the show. “Don’t eat the brownies that Matthew McConaughey brought,” Fallon joked to Us Weekly on the red carpet. “Wait until after the show.”

4:31 p.m. Snapchat this! 14-year-old Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka snapped a quick selfie outside of the Nokia Theatre with her mom before taking their seats inside.

4:39 p.m. Julia Roberts walked the red carpet, stealing the show. She looked beautiful and comfortable in a cropped Elie Saab Couture dress. “[I love] that it’s short!” she gushed to Us of the talked-about mini dress. “I wasn’t sweating like everybody else on the red carpet and I have pockets!”

4:43 p.m. Alright, alright, alright! True Detective‘s Matthew McConaughey made a rare appearance at the Emmys, walking the red carpet minutes before the show started with his wife Camila Alves. Warm from the California heat, he blotted his face with a tissue and looked at Alves for final approval to make sure he didn’t mess up his foundation.

4:48 p.m. Power pals! Kate Mara walked by Kerry Washington and Washington grabbed her and gushed, “You look amazing!”

5:00 p.m. 2014 Emmy Awards live broadcast begins with an opening monologue by Seth Meyers.

5:28 p.m. Celebratory costars! Laverne Cox screamed “gorgeous!” when her fellow OITNB star Uzo Aduba took the stage to present with Hayden Panettiere

5:41 p.m. A-list double date! Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moder spent time with Don Cheadle and his wife Bridgid Coulter, chatting and snapping photos together.

5:50 p.m. She’s mad for them! Amy Poehler ran over to say hi to Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt.

5:52 p.m. A crew member sought out Aaron Paul and said, “Jon Voight really wants to meet you and asked if I could bring you over during the next break.” Paul was incredulous but happily agreed, greeting Angelina Jolie‘s Oscar-winning dad with a hug. The pair seemed to hit it off immediately, spending their chat laughing and whispering quietly.

6:13 p.m. Always come prepared! Debra Messing opened up her purse and produced a Ziploc bag, offering her friends carrot sticks that she had stashed in the baggie.

6:13 p.m. Anyone got a map? Adam Levine and his new wife Behati Prinsloo got a bit lost inside the Nokia Theatre, holding hands as they tried to find their way. Sipping on clear vodka cocktails, they asked a crew member for guidance as Levine admitted, “We have no idea where to go!”

6:23 p.m. Just like Us! Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks slipped on a pair of reading glasses to look at a long email on her phone during the show.

7:22 p.m. The show took an emotional turn with Billy Crystal‘s remembrance of his friend, the late Robin Williams. After the tribute, Lena Dunham took a pack of tissues out of her bag and said, “That was just really sad” as she held hands with her boyfriend Antonoff. Anna Chlumsky was visibly crying and said, “I really don’t want to be crying right now and I can’t stop.”

8:00 p.m. 66th Primetime Emmys wrap and stars head to various afterparties around town.

9:12 p.m. Getting handsy! January Jones skipped utensils at the Governors Ball, eating the kale on her plate with her hands.

9:58 p.m. Off to bed! Jesse Tyler Ferguson appeared to be the first major exit of the night, leaving the Fox, FX & National Geographic Channel Emmy Party at Vibiana. He and his husband Justin Mikita walked out of the party and headed for a car.

10:00 pm. Getting rowdy! Woody Harrelson was super-smiley at the HBO Party at the Pacific Design Center, broing out with some friends. At one point, one of the guys grabbed Woody’s bald head and started rubbing it. A red-faced Harrelson cracked up during the headlock.

10:03 p.m. Art imitating life! Mad Men star Ben Feldman and his wife Michelle Mulitz caught up with January Jones at the Governors Ball, telling her that fans have been asking him to sign pictures of the famously ear-short artist Van Gogh. Feldman’s Mad Men character was also down a body part.

10:40 p.m. Great success! Seth Meyers hosted an afterparty with Beats by Dre for his friends and family at Hyde. Looking totally at ease and beaming all the while, he told guests that he felt great about the hosting gig.

10:55 p.m. So modest! Bryan Cranston celebrated at the AMC/IFC/Sundance Channel Party presented by Heineken at Boa, but appeared bashful about his win. “I thought Matthew [McConaughey] was gonna win it,” said Cranston, who beat out the True Detective actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Breaking Bad. “I really did. That was an extraordinary… They said my name and I was like, ‘Alright then!'”

11:20 p.m. Party animal! With her shoes already off, Amy Poehler was the life of the party at Seth Meyers’ celebration. She took her phone and held it up in the air, shining the light in Parks and Recreation pal Rashida Jones’ face, before starting to dance and fist pump around Jones, margarita in hand.

11:30 p.m. On their thrones! Game of Thrones stars and real-life couple Rose Leslie and Kit Harington held court at a table outside in the smoking area at the HBO party.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 26

12:00 a.m. Fashionably late! Sarah Silverman and boyfriend Michael Sheen, whom she called her “love” during her wild Emmys acceptance speech, arrived at Seth Meyers’ party as the clock struck midnight. Sheen kept his hand on her lower back, and the pair held hands on-and-off during the evening.
