The Goldfinch may be coming to the big screen.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is attempting to acquire the rights to Donna Tartt's acclaimed 2013 novel. The Goldfinch, which hit stores in October 2013, quickly became a New York Times best seller and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in April 2014.
There has been talk of a film adaptation in the months since, and if Warner Bros. succeeds in obtaining the rights, fans won't have to wait much longer.
The Goldfinch is the third book out from Tartt, 50, who is still deciding "whether to move forward with an adaptation," Variety reports.
According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. made Tartt and her representatives at ICM Partners an attractive offer, but negotiations may come down to creative decisions, as the author reportedly wants to be involved in the movie.
The 784-page book tells the story of Theo Decker, a teenage boy who was raised in New York City, and whose life turns upside down when he loses his mother. The layered tale was originally thought to be best used as a television miniseries, but WB reportedly sees potential in The Goldfinch to be a feature film.
Neither Tartt nor Warner Bros. has commented on the rumors.
