Amy Adams is first class all the way, no matter where she sits. The American Hustle star, 39, had a first-class ticket on her flight from Detroit to L.A. on Friday, June 27, but she gave it up to a serviceman who was traveling in coach, ESPN2 personality Jemele Hill told Today.com.

"When we were waiting to board, I saw her glance the soldier's way and then she said something to the person she was traveling with," Hill, co-host of Numbers Never Lie, wrote in an email during the flight. "Once we boarded, I saw she was in first class…I think she must have said something to the flight attendant, because before we took off, she had vacated her seat and the flight attendant brought the soldier to her seat."

The Oscar-nominated actress, whose father Richard was in the military, also had a private chat with the serviceman near the front of the plane. "Ms. Adams did it so quietly and quickly that it speaks to her character," Hill told ABC News. "And somebody in coach just got a helluva seat mate!"

That somebody was writer/blogger Ernest Owens, who snapped a photo with his new travel companion on the plane. "Told @InsideEdition why Amy Adams was classy for giving up her 1st class seat to the soldier sitting next to me!" he tweeted alongside the picture.

Adams, for her part, deflected praise when asked about the gesture by an Inside Edition reporter. "I didn't do it for attention for myself," she said. "I did it for attention for the troops."
