Among the many show-stopping moments — including a performance by John Legend — during Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade‘s wedding on Saturday, Aug. 30, in Miami, the bride’s two custom Dennis Basso gowns surely topped the list.
“The gowns were both amazing,” the designer tells Us Weekly. “One was much more classic — a gorgeous fitted bodice with a lovely soft woven tonal design and a full skirt that had a slight pleating at the waist to draw attention to Gabrielle’s tiny waist.” The bride also wore a tiered veil by Peter Langner.
Once the two sealed their union with a kiss, the Being Mary Jane star, 41, changed into a second custom gown. “It was a much more sleek look with fine beading, just enough to capture the light when she danced, sprinkled with pearls,” Basso tells Us.
Union worked with the designer, who has a line of wedding gowns at Kleinfeld’s Bridal, and her stylist Jason Bolden on the dress for four months, meeting for the first time back in May. “After spending some time with Gabrielle and thinking about the best looks for her, I knew that Dennis Basso would be the designer to work with!” Bolden, creative director and celebrity fashion stylist, tells Us. “I had worked with Dennis in the past for other clients, and I was certain that he could execute the design inspiration that we had come up with.”
All of the hard work and planning paid off on the big day. “Thank you thank you thank you @DennisBasso for helping me design THE most perfect gowns for the most special night of my life…So grateful…So happy,” Union wrote on Instagram.
