Teresa Giudice Opens Up After Sentencing: “I Wish I Could Do Everything Differently”

There's never been any shortage of drama on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but none of the fights or scandals compares to what series stars Teresa and Joe Giudice now face in the wake of their recent sentencing. With prison looming just months ahead, Teresa is preparing to leave behind her family and life of luxury — and Us Weekly has all the details on how she's coping.

"I wish I could do everything differently," the mom to daughters Gia, 13, Gabriella, 10, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 5, tells Us in the new issue. "But then again, maybe not, because this is a life lesson that I need to learn and will learn, and will teach my children for the rest of my life, just as Judge Salas told me she expected me to do."

After pleading guilty to multiple counts of fraud last March, the reality star and her husband appeared before Judge Esther Salas on Oct. 2 to learn their fates: 15 months and 41 months in prison, respectively. Teresa will serve her term first, beginning in January 2015, followed by Joe in 2016, so that one of them will be home with their kids at any given time.

Both parents addressed the court prior to being sentenced last week, and accepted responsibility for the mistakes they'd made in the past. "I speak as a wife, a mother, and a daughter," Teresa said when it was her turn. "Today I am blessed but I am also humbled. I hear you and what you are saying, and it is time for me to wake up." She added, "I am more sorry than anyone will know."
