Two fewer “Beckys” to worry about!
Amid rumors of who the infamous “Becky with the good hair” from Beyoncé’s new visual album, Lemonade, might be, Rita Ora and Katy Perry both shut down any speculation that they are the “side chick” who earned Queen Bey’s wrath. Both women wore “Not Becky” pins to Met Gala 2016 afterparties in New York City on Monday, May 2.
Ora, 25, who shared a sweet selfie with Beyoncé via Snapchat from the ball, further fought back against rumors that she is the mysterious mistress who came in between the “Formation” singer, 34, and her hip-hop hubby, Jay Z, by attaching the declarative accessory to her black patent leather dress.
On April 24, Beyoncé fans attacked Ora after the “Coming Home” singer, 25, posted a provocative picture of herself wearing lemon-inspired lingerie paired with a backward lowercase “R” necklace that resembled a “J.” This sartorial choice led the Beyhive to believe that the U.K. native was sending a message to 46-year-old Jay. Almost immediately, they branded Ora as the “Becky” mentioned in Beyoncé’s Lemonade track “Sorry,” an accusation that the British songstress has strongly denied.
“I never usually address tabloid gossip but let me be clear, these rumours are false,” Ora tweeted on Tuesday, April 26. “I have nothing but the upmost respect for Beyoncé. Let’s continue enjoying Lemonade.”
While Perry, 31, hasn’t been previously thought to be “Becky,” she made a preemptive move to protect herself from future gossip, wearing her self-identifying fashion statement with a black and gold baroque-inspired gown.
The two pop stars attended the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology-themed affair, for which Ora wore a stunning, silver Vera Wang number while Perry turned heads in a black, blue and green velvet ensemble by Prada.
Other women whose names have come up in the hunt for “Becky” include fashion designer Rachel Roy, Mya and Rihanna.
