Potential future first lady of the United States Melania Trump knew what the family was getting into when her husband, Donald Trump, announced his presidential bid in 2015. But she still worries about shielding their 10-year-old son, Barron, from hateful comments.
“We’re dealing with it and I’m teaching [Barron] the right way and giving him morals and tradition and teaching him values at home,” the former model told Us Weekly and other reporters on Tuesday, April 26, at the Time 100 Gala. “I’m home most of the time with him and being a parent to him. He’s 10 years old and he needs somebody at home.”
Melania, who wore a floor-length white Mugler gown, also revealed that Barron understands why his GOP front-runner father is seldom around these days. “He supports his dad 100 percent,” the Slovenia native, 45, said. “Of course, we both miss him because he is on the road a lot, but [Barron] understands and he’s doing great.”
Back in January, Melania told Us Weekly in an exclusive cover story interview that she fully supports Donald’s aspiration to take over the Oval Office, but doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with the real estate mogul.
“I give him ideas, and I give him my opinions,” the designer of QVC’s Melania Timepieces & Fashion Jewelry line told Us. “Do I agree with everything he says? No,” she added. “I have my own opinions too, and I tell him that. Sometimes he takes it in and listens, and sometimes he doesn’t. But it is who he is, I don’t want to change him. He’s an adult, he knows what the consequences could be.”
Donald scored huge victories on Tuesday, winning primaries in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
