Ryan Adams Refuses to Talk About Wife Mandy Moore, Private Life, Hung Up During Phone Interview

Ryan Adams said in a new interview that he refuses to talk about his wife Mandy Moore and his private life to the press, and once hung up during a phone interview when pestered about his wife of five years

Ryan Adams will spend hours in his Pax-Am studio singing on the mic in L.A.'s Sunset Sound studios, but don't expect the rocker to be as expressive about his wife of five years Mandy Moore. The singer recently explained why he keeps his marriage private in an interview with Buzzfeed, reiterating his point by abruptly hanging up on a nosy reporter.

The critically beloved Indie singer-songwriter, 39, made the brisk move during a chat with a Melbourne radio show. "I just don't share at all about my private life," he politely told the interviewer. When asked again about the actress and singer, he decided to pull the plug completely after a long pause.

"OK, so I just hung up 'cause I was on the radio getting asked about my wife. I was really nice about it the first time, and I'm sorry, but I won't repeat myself," he explained via Buzzfeed. "The deal is this: I'm a private person and I'll be a gentleman and say I'm not talking about my marriage ever. I'll never talk about it. Ever."

He continued: "I'll talk about rescue cats for a few seconds. But even there I don't want to talk about my pets. If I have children I'm not going to discuss that with anyone ever. I'll suggest it once and then I'm going to hang up."

An unexpected couple to many, Adams and Moore, 30, secretly wed in March 2009 and — as Adams explained — have kept quiet about their life together. Last month, Moore gushed that the couple have a "little zoo" of pets in their home when she stopped by Us Weekly's NYC headquarters. "There's no way to have a connection with my husband," she joked of their dogs and cats. "There are always animals in between [us]!" (The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary with a prom-themed party in March.)

The low-key pair met when Adams was going through a tough time — specifically when he was diagnosed with Meniere's disease and announced he would be quitting the business in 2009.

"My wife once said, 'You were like a bird in too small of a cage and I was watching your wings thrash against the side of this thing," he recalled to Buzzfeed. "You needed space. You needed to just fly free.' And she was exactly right."

After a brief time away, Adams is now back and concentrating on his new self-titled, fourteenth album. He also has appeared to have moved on since getting asked about his wife. According to Buzzfeed, he tweeted an apology to the Australian radio hosts the following day saying that the call got "disconnected."
