Kristen Bell: ‘Relationships Are a Lot of Work’

No marriage is perfect — and no one understands that better than Hollywood’s cutest couple, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.

“One thing I like to reiterate … is that we’ve done a lot of work on our relationship,” the Bad Moms actress told Us Weekly in a joint interview with Shepard. “We’re very focused on staying together. We’ve made a choice to love each other but realize relationships are a lot of work. I think it’s responsible to be honest about that.”

“It’s hard work, working out the kinks of how learning how to argue because we disagree on almost every topic on the planet,” the Frozen star said. “We earned our relationship, which we’re very proud of.”

Bell, 35, and the Parenthood alum, 41, opened up to Good Housekeeping in April 2015 about getting couples therapy regularly. “We’re the Paula Abdul video ‘Opposites Attract’ personified,” she admitted. “I thought I had this life thing down pat when I met Dax. I didn’t realize that I needed a much bigger toolbox to have confrontations and disagreements with people.”

Counseling was essential to their healthy union. “You do better in the gym with a trainer; you don’t figure out how to cook without reading a recipe,” she reflected. “Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about.”

And though the parents of daughters Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 16 months, have said they bump heads on “99.9 percent of issues,” they do agree on some things. “We have the exact same taste in TV, which is a huge, huge cornerstone of our relationship,” raves Bell. “Sex and off-roading. We like eating as well.” For Shepard, the best meals are ones that Bell makes at home. “Kristen is a phenomenal cook, like, a crazy, crazy amazing cook,” Shepard gushed to Us. “I could have something at a restaurant and I’ll go, ‘Oh my god this is amazing’ and then she’ll make it the next day.”

Bell and Shepard, who started dating in 2007, got engaged in 2010. But the couple waited until 2013 — when California legalized same-sex marriage — to say “I do.”
