Just in time for the country’s bone-chilling temperature drop, Idina Menzel and Michael Buble have teamed up to record a kid-friendly version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
The celebrated singers took on the classic holiday ditty, editing a few of the questionable lyrics that deal with alcohol, cigarettes, and sexual consent. The pair swapped “Say what’s in this drink / No cabs to be had out there,” with “Say was that a wink? / No cabs to be had out there,” and “I ought to say no no no sir / Mind if I move in closer,” for “I ought to get home for dinner / Mind if I move in closer.”
They also made the song more suited to the younger set, replacing “Well maybe just half a drink more / Put some records on while I pour,” with “Well maybe just a soda pop more / Put some records on while I pour,” and “But maybe just a cigarette more / Never such a blizzard before” for “But maybe just another dance more / Never such a blizzard before.”
In lieu of Menzel and Buble themselves, two fancy-footing kids star in the accompanying music video for the updated “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” The youngsters are shown in a swanky hotel, dancing and chatting in their formal attire as they lip-sync the lyrics.
The song is Buble’s latest foray into the holiday season. The “To Love Somebody” singer, 39, is returning to NBC for the fourth time on Wednesday, Dec. 17 for his Christmas in New York television special. He will be joined by stars such as Barbra Streisand and Ariana Grande.
For her part, Menzel, 43, features the duet with Buble on her Holiday Wishes album, which she released last month. The 12-track album features the Broadway star’s takes on classics like “Silent Night,” “White Christmas,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
