Since the release of the first Twilight film in 2008, Robert Pattinson has become a household name, earning tens of millions of dollars, cementing himself as a teen idol, and landing top spots on hottest hunks lists. But Pattinson himself still isn't sure about his place in Hollywood.
"I don't know if I've really particularly found my feet as an actor yet," the star, 28, said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I have to prove certain things."
After his turn as the vampire hottie Edward Cullen, Pattinson has been seeking out more serious roles and foregoing franchised series for small-budget indies.
"I hate auditioning," he told THR about trying out for new parts. "I just can't do it. I get so nervous, like cripplingly nervous. I'm bad at them, and I feel awful afterward."
The British actor made his last appearance as Bella Swan's love in November 2012, in the final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 2. In the years since, he went gritty for David Cronenberg's small-time thriller Cosmopolis, tried out his dark side for the upcoming dystopian crime film The Rover, and teams up with Cornenberg again for the Hollywood-mocking Maps to the Stars.
He still saw his greatest commercial success with the Twilight movies, however, and has yet to receive major critical acclaim for his acting abilities.
Nonetheless, with his busy schedule full of upcoming films, Pattinson may be poised to finally find his footing. Just this week it was announced that he will star alongside Robert De Niro in the heist thriller Idol's Eye, directed by acclaimed moviemaker Olivier Assayas (Paris Je T'aime).
