Face palm! The “Lie Witness News” segment of Jimmy Kimmel Live is often comical, but on Monday, Jan. 19 (aka Martin Luther King Day), it was particularly disturbing. The host revealed his camera crew had to interview only 14 people on the streets of Los Angeles to find seven who believe the martyred Civil Rights leader is still alive.
“Usually it takes us a while to find people who are dopey enough, sometimes it take hours,” Kimmel said. “But today on Martin Luther King Day, this took almost no time at all.”
Kimmel’s staff member asked random strangers their thoughts on Dr. King’s speech from Monday morning.
When one man was asked about his reaction to the speech, he replied, “I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it. I was like, ‘How, how could it happen?’ I haven’t heard him talk for a while.”
The iconic pastor and activist was assassinated by James Earl Ray at the age of 39 in Memphis, Tenn. on April 4, 1968.
