Robin Williams Mourned By Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Jennifer Lopez, and More Celebs

Robin Williams' friends and collaborators, including Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, and Jennifer Lopez continue mourn his death on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Less than 24 hours after the news of Robin Williams‘ untimely death broke, more of his most famous friends and collaborators are honoring his memory on social media. His longtime publicist Mara Buxbaum confirmed the Oscar winner’s death to Us Weekly in a statement, which read: “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg, who co-hosted the charity telethon Comic Relief with Williams throughout the years, tweeted about their fallen friend. Crystal, who also co-starred with Williams in Father’s Day, wrote “No words.” 

A bit later, Goldberg cosigned him, writing, “BillyCrystal is right…There are No words.” Since 1986, the comedians were the hosts of the charity telethon, which mostly aired on HBO and raised money for the homeless.

Another collaborator who honored Williams was Jennifer Lopez, who starred as his school teacher in the aging disorder film, Jack, in 1996, posting a movie still on Instagram.

“Sad, sad, day… My condolences to Robin’s family & friends,” she captioned the photo. “He brought light to every room he entered & was a true comedic genius. The world will miss you, Robin! #RIPRW” 

Hank Azaria, who starred in The Birdcage with Williams in 1996 as his flamboyantly gay and scantily-clad housekeeper Agador, also remembered the late actor: “What I’ll remember about Robin most was his genuine kindness and love of people. On set and off.”

Finally, Josh Charles, who played his student Knox in Dead Poets Society in 1989, paid homage to the film’s iconic “O Captain” scene in his tweet: “Your humor, like hot jazz, was topped by your sensitivity, compassion & kindness. Standing on my desk for you, always. #RIPRobinWilliams”
