The life of a royal baby! Vanity Fair is feeling very royal lately, as palace insiders revealed the ins and outs of Prince George's life at home with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for its August 2014 issue.
In the mag, insiders told Vanity Fair contributor Katie Nicholl about Prince George's behavior during his first public appearances, his nanny shake-up, and more. (The adorable tyke and England's future king will celebrate his 1st birthday on July 22.)
"Kate expressed relief that George behaved well during his first few public appearances," Nicholl revealed. "…For the first few months the prince cried loudly and frequently, and he was not sleeping through the night. Nanny Jessie Webb tried hard to get him into a routine, but the baby prince, who was still breastfeeding, was permanently hungry," and it was "only in the new year when Kate introduced solids, that George finally slept through the night."
As previously reported, Webb came out of retirement to assist Kate Middleton and Prince William after their son's birth. Vanity Fair now reports that her decision to step down this year was because she wasn't up to traveling to New Zealand and Australia for the springtime royal tour. The couple eventually hired Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo in March to take her place.
"She spent a week bonding with George at Kate's family home in March under the watchful eyes of the Middleton grandparents, while Will and Kate jetted off to the Maldives for a second honeymoon," VF noted. "Her credentials include experience in self-defense, high-speed driving, and dealing with paparazzi."
Prince George has become a royal sensation since his arrival, which was especially obvious last fall. Despite the British media's disapproval, unauthorized pictures of Middleton taking a stroll with George were published overseas. "After that episode, Kate decided to walk George on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where they could not be photographed."
Kate and William, both 32, have given the world several glances of their first child this past year, most notably during their New Zealand and Australian tour and in released family portraits. However, at the end of the day the parents want their baby boy to enjoy a normal upbringing.
"They take George to playdates at the homes of friends, among them Kate's old Marlborough friend Alice St. John Webster, who has a baby several months older than George," VP mentioned. As for when Prince George may become a big brother, "there are rumors among the couple's friends that they plan to try this summer." Click here to see more cute pics of Prince George.
