Gisele Bundchen Stars in Baz Luhrmann’s Lush, Romantic Chanel No. 5 Short Film: “What’s Most Important to Gisele Is Love”

No one makes a romance like Baz Luhrmann—especially for Chanel!

The Great Gatsby director, who’s behind some of the most romantic movies of all time, including Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, just released his second Chanel No. 5 short film for the famed French fashion house. The result: an insanely romantic declaration of love, starring the one and only Gisele Bundchen.

“Gisele, in her own DNA, comes from a new world sensibility,” Luhrmann said of his leading lady in a behind-the-scenes clip. “I think that’s both fresh, but very true to Coco Chanel.” He added, “Coco was 100 percent a self-empowered woman.”

And clearly, the Golden Globe winner thinks Bundchen is just as powerful. “[Gisele] can be incredibly athletic. She has children. She has a very, very significant relationship. She has a career where she can create aspirational, sensual, incredibly glamorous imagery,” said Luhrmann. And yet, he mused, “What’s most important to her, and I think I’m not out of line saying this, is love. That’s what we try to convey in this little film.”

In the full three-and-a-half-minute film, Bundchen, 34, can be seen jumping in a warehouse, surfing at the beach, running through the streets at night, and rushing through an opera house, all in search of true love. The beautiful sets were crafted with care by Luhrmann’s wife and constant collaborator, Catherine Martin, and the whole clip is soundtracked with Lo-Fang’s instant-ambiance-creating take on the classic Grease song, “You’re the One That I Want.”

The Brazilian beauty’s Chanel duds in the short aren’t so shabby either! For the warehouse scenes, the mom of two rocks a gold, short-sleeved minidress, sneakers, and voluminous bombshell waves. But later, she dons an LBD with an embellished neckline and a very low back designed to showcase a long “5” necklace dripping with diamonds.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Chanel love story without a steamy love interest. Bundchen’s on-screen beau was played by the ruggedly handsome Game of Thrones hunk, Michiel Huisman (a.k.a. Khaleesi’s hot soldier, Daario). In fact, the pair got along so well during filming, Luhrmann teased his actors before wrapping the shoot. “If you keep kissing, I’ll get in lots of trouble. Stop the kissing! Stop the kissing!” the silver-haired director can be seen shouting into his megaphone in the behind-the-scenes clip.
