The tune, which she has clearly noted is not her next official single, hits iTunes on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Swift, 24, shared a sneak peek of the track on Good Morning America on Monday, Oct. 13, after also posting an interview in which she explains its backstory.

“This song is about the fragility and breakable nature of some relationships,” she said of “Out of the Woods.” “This was a relationship where I was kind of living day-to-day wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day.”

Taylor Swift’s upcoming fifth studio album 1989 is set for an Oct. 27 release.

Though Swift didn’t note exactly which one of her famous exes the song was about, many are pointing to One Direction’s Harry Styles. In the lyrics, she references what appears to be a crash, singing, “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/twenty stitches in a hospital room.” And in her recent cover story with Rolling Stone, she also noted that she was once in a snowmobile accident with Styles, which incited the idea of the song being about the British singer.

She didn’t bash the unnamed relationship in her interview, adding, “You kind of never feel like you’re standing on solid ground. That kind of a feeling brings on excitement, but also extreme anxiety.”
