Willow Smith Explains Why She Dropped Out of Annie: Something Inside Me Said “Don’t”

Willow Smith opened up to Teen Vogue about being "very connected with my intuition" in its August 2014 issue.

Only in Willow’s world! Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s daughter, Willow, opened up her heart and home to Teen Vogue in its August 2014 issue.

Sporting a blonde pixie cut in the accompanying spread, the precocious 13-year-old told the magazine why she dropped out of her father’s big-budget remake of Annie. “To be honest, something inside me was just, like, ‘Don’t,'” said Smith. “I’m very connected with my intuition.” (Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis tackled the starring role, instead, opposite Cameron Diaz as Miss Agatha Hannigan and Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks.)

In the spread, Willow channels that so-called intuitive side as she wears a tie-dye T-shirt and poses in front of a whiteboard designed with celestial patterns. In a second snapshot, she looks poetic in a beret as she poses behind a luminous crystal ball.

“My style is who I am all the time,” said the Hollywood scion, who recently sparked outrage in May, after a picture of her laying in bed with a shirtless 20-year-old Moises Arias was posted to his Tumblr. “And who I am always changes.”

Smith gushed about her appreciation for accessories, (“My whole family, we love Cartier”) including her favorite pair of heels, a special gift from Karl Lagerfeld. “They make me feel like I’m a sophisticated Amazon woman,” she said of the shoes. Don’t ask the star to wear snakeskin anything, though. As Us Weekly exclusively revealed last month, Smith and her older brother Jaden are “obsessed” with their 10 pet snakes, which sometimes slither and sleep in their beds.

The “Whip My Hair” hitmaker of course touched on the topic of her multicolored tresses. “My hair is super, super, super, super hard to destroy,” said Smith. “It’s a survivor.” While she’s gone from pink to green to now blonde, the youngster might stick with her current hue for a while: “Blondes do have more fun!” she quipped.

Though she’s returned to middle school, Smith is well aware of her influence, especially amongst America’s youth. “I just felt like people needed to hear what I had to say, man,” Willow shared of her latest song recordings. “I feel like I can really give people a different view on things.” She added of her future album: “It’s going to be something outlandish, something that nobody can imagine, something that comes from me and only me. Something we need right now.”
