Victory party at Mrs. Rudd’s! True-blue Kansas City Royals fan Paul Rudd was in the mood to celebrate on Wednesday, Oct. 15, after his favorite MLB team swept the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series to advance to the World Series for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Rudd, 45, joined the Royals players on the field after the game, swapping out his standard KC baseball cap for a snazzy postseason cap. Hoarse from screaming, he chatted with local CNN affiliate KMBC about the big win, saying he’s had faith all along that they’d get here someday.
“I’ve lost my voice. But I’ve lost my voice just about every game since the Wild Card,” he said, still buzzing with excitement. “It was amazing. This entire town feels it.”
Indeed, the Royals have been on something of a magical streak since making it to the postseason. They’ve now won eight in a row and are headed to the Fall Classic in a week to face off against either the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants. The last time the team made it to the World Series was 1985.
“I know for the last several years, just every year, all of us Royals fans have the same hope. It’s like, ‘Okay, it’s the start of a new season,'” Rudd told KMBC. “All those pieces are in place, our farm club’s great, and then with the last few trades they’ve made, we just have really high hopes. And then when we went on that win streak this summer, I was thinkin’ like, ‘Wow, this could legitimately happen.’ And it has so far.”
Asked how he planned to celebrate, the They Came Together actor joked, “I’m gonna be partying at my mom’s house! Party at my mom’s, man! She’s out of town, I got a keg. It’s gonna be sweet! Five dollar cover!”
