Why you gotta be so mean? Jimmy Kimmel took a favorite segment to the next level on Monday, Jan. 12, when he brought Mean Tweets to the College Football Playoff Championship.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host, 47, did a special from Texas’ AT&T Stadium, where the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Oregon Ducks with a score of 42 to 20 in the first ever football championship game at the college level. Inspired by the fanfare, Kimmel decided to put a football spin on his beloved gag.
“This is where celebrities read all the horrible things people say about them on the Internet,” the funnyman began. “When it comes to mean comments, no fans compare to sports fans. I asked some of our favorite college football broadcasters and coaches to open themselves up to the horrors of the Internet for a special CFP Championship edition of Mean Tweets.”
Kimmel then panned to a video of college football personalities taking the seats of Hollywood stars as they repeated harsh tweets that were written about them.
The clip featured NFL alum and ESPN personality Desmond Howard, SportsCenter anchor Rece Davis, ESPN football analyst Mark May, former coach and broadcaster Lou Holtz, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich, sportscaster Heather Cox, former University of Michigan coach Brady Hoke, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, NFL and The Bachelor alum Jesse Palmer, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, College GameDay‘s Chris Fowler, SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt, ESPN commentator Lee Corso, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, and even veteran college football hottie Tim Tebow.
“Tim Tebow is not cute, sexy, or hot,” the University of Florida alum read. “He ugly. Sorry bout it.”
Tebow hardly had the worst of it as Twitter users called Davis a “tool,” Holtz a “creepy ventriloquist puppet,” and Kelly an “angry leprechaun-looking douchebag.”
